Department of English. English Language Policy
The Department of English participates actively in the Erasmus Programme. The students who apply are later picked and assigned to programmes to study, work, or do internships abroad. The Erasmus students take an English level test and those who pass it, receive extra English lessons after school in order to prepare them for their time abroad and to enhance their experience in their new country. We also encourage teachers and administrative staff to participate in the Erasmus Programme through English lessons. The aim is that they feel self-confident and apply for mobilities and enroll in courses in English speaking countries within the Erasmus programme.
We
count on the invaluable presence of the Auxiliares de Conversación, who
introduce their native language in the classroom and serve as representatives
of their culture to help enrich our students.
The Department of English has an updated blog accessible to both teachers and students, which introduces the most current events and other topics of interest for the students. The blog includes review, announcements, practice tests, through the means of video and other media.
We
use English as a vehicle within English class and try to only use Spanish in
cases of clarification of difficult grammar concepts or when the students feel
lost. The students participate in small group English classes so that they can
practice conversation.
The
English Department participates in the High-School Vocational Program as well.
Students who are preparing for their future jobs, like studying heating and
cooling systems, electrical systems, computer technology, and other careers are
given English classes that have a focus on their English needs for work. The
students also have the opportunity to practice interviewing in English, and
receive help with writing their CV in English.
We organize a student trip to an
English-speaking country. This is an invaluable opportunity for the students to
experience cultural and linguistic immersion.
